Leonardo DaVideo Editor
🎬 DaVinci Resolve is a Great Editor!#
- I have been actively using it for about two weeks now!
- I have been working on editing new AIG Videos and revisiting old content
- The editor has a lot of premium features all for free
- There are a lot of different tabs and editors for the different features like:
- editing effects
- cutting the footage up
- doing audio effects
- creating custom animations
🔁 Going From Premiere to DaVinci#
- The biggest change I feel like I have to worry with is the cutting vs editing process
- Having to switch between menus is tedious, and even though the editing view has the razor to do cuts with, to Ripple delete, you have to go back into the Cut menu to do granule control over the clips
- I also have familiarity with the flow between Adobe and the rest of the toolstack that it has
- However, in DaVinci, I feel that I have to jump around software to get my final product done
- I can export stills for thumbnails and get my proxies imported properly so I can edit proficiently
- But I feel like Premiere does exceed in the uniformity of how the editor is laid out
- Also, being able to organize my system files and caching to go together with the project files in a way that I can keep it organized and clear out the older metadata
- To keep things in order, I have to add a library that is separate from the main DaVinci path, to push things in the right direction
- It does allow the connection to these paths, but in Premiere you can:
- Define the path
- Arrange the video files to sync and connect and link properly to the project files
⏱️ Two Months in DaVinci#
- I have been editing (as of this addition) in DaVinci for almost 2 months now
- Really enjoy the interface, the seamless audio scrubbing with video, and the timeline flow
- Effects work very well and there’s a lot of room for customization
- I can bring footage into the project very quickly, and after it loads in, it doesn’t require the same amount of encoding time that was previously used
- The Properties and Inspector tabs allow for a lot more control and keyframing
- The ability to export footage is a little different
- I do wish there was a Media Encoder ability, so I could queue up multiple project renders, then upload and process the videos and updates to the project
- I have been thoroughly enjoying what I have been using and will continue using DaVinci 🎥
